Acting
Julie Stryker North, Instructor
Julie
Stryker North is a director and actor living on
Madeline Island, a short ferry ride from Bayfield.
She finds that island living and beautiful surroundings
provide an endless arena of inspiration. She feels
fortunate to live in a community that allows her
to explore her creativity.
Julie has studied at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis.
In 1994, she co-founded the Positivity Children's
Theatre: a child-oriented theatre which only produces
original plays written by kids or community members.
The plots generally revolve around the lake and/or
the Apostle Islands area. She helps workshop the
scripts and produce the plays. Julie is also a member
Madeline Island's theater troupe, the Lake Effect
Players. The group produces plays that spoof on
island life. Productions often take place in the
winter months when laughter is essential. Lake Effect
also produces a melodrama about Bayfield's first
Apple Festival.
Her latest endeavor involves helping to direct and
produce the Madeline Island Radio Hour. Since 2005,
MIRH has developed radio ready CDs based on island
life. Music, drama , history, children's plays,
and a (fake) call- in radio show called Donna Askme.
WTIP 90.7, Grand Marais, MN airs the Madeline Island
